Pitching Probables: Christopher Narveson vs Esmil Rogers
A couple of middling teams without great prospects for the playoffs match up in this one. When you look at the starters you wonder whether this might be a rematch from the Cactus League circuit. But no matter who is on the mound these teams can score. Milwaukee is 7th in the majors in scoring and that is despite an awkward season from Prince Fielder where the RBI’s are not matching the power output. Either way this club has a fearsome lineup so in the thin air of Coor’s Field anything is possible. These teams have met 6 times already this season and split them down the middle as both clubs took series’ on their home turf. In only one of those games did a team win while scoring less than 5 runs so we should be able to count on some offense. Just in case you were wondering Narveson’s ERA is a healthy 5.62.
The Rockies keep talking about going on a 2007 style run but that isn’t going to happen until they stop trading Ws and Ls like they have been over the last 10. They have finally gotten healthy with the return of Troy Tulowitzki and Todd Helton but Helton is really showing his age lately making way for the dynamic Carlos Gonzalez to step into that three spot and thrive. Other than Ubaldo Jimenez who knows what you are going to get from the starting staff. Esmil Rogers is hardly a household name and looking at his numbers it seems like he is one of those pitchers who is great when nobody is on but struggles to overcome the inevitability of baserunners. His ERA is sitting at 4.74 which when combined with Narveson pretty much guarantees some runs will be scored in this one.
Prediction: Seems like the safest play here is the over but if you prefer sides I definitely feel more comfortable with the Rockies.
Colorado is -138 and the O/U is set at 10.
Score Prediction:
Colorado Rockies – 8
Milwaukee Brewers – 6
