The Milwaukee Brewers (73-52) have been one of the hottest teams in all of baseball since the All-Star Break, having gone 24-9 since starting the second half of the season, and now will face a New York Mets (60-63) team they have dominated all year.

The Mets, who are third in the NL East, have had a rough season so far, and have been dogged by controversy and scandal. Despite this, the team is still adequate in nearly every category on the stat sheers, and has one of the most talented teams in the Majors.
New York’s offense is 4th in on-base percentage and 7th in batting average (a .266 that is better than the Brewers), and the team has two very good offensive players in shortstop Jose Reyes and right-fielder Carlos Beltran. Beltran has been the team’s most consistent scorer, hitting 15 home runs and 66 RBIs. He is also leading the team with a .391 on-base percentage. But it doesn’t seem like they have enough to elevate the rest of the team to success.
The Brewers, on the other hand, are dominant in all phases of their offensive game. First-baseman Prince Fielder is still opposing teams’ central focus when they want to slow down the Brewers’ offense, but they have failed to do so this year. Fielder has hit 27 home runs, 90 RBIs and is hitting an astounding .412 on-base percentage. Left-fielder Ryan Braun is another key piece in the team’s offense, and is just four home runs behind fielder. These two players make up one of the best pairs in all of baseball.
The pitching dual will be left hander Randy Wolf (10-8) for the Brewers and Chris Capuano (9-11) for the Mets.
Wolf is having one of the best seasons of his career so far in 2011, and the 34-year-old is pitching 3.30 ERA with 104 strikeouts. If he can continue his success into this game, the Brewers will have an easy route to victory.
Capuano on the other hand, is having a very disappointing year. The left-hander has an ERA of 4.58, and hasn’t shown that he can stand up to good offenses. In his last game, he was taken out after six innings, but not before giving up an ERA of 6.00.
The odds makers have the Milwaukee Brewers as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 8.
Matt’s Free Prediction: Brewers– This is not a difficult pick. The Brewers are so hot right now, and in their last series looked like a World Series team only loosing to Dodger-ace Clayton Kershaw. The Mets on the other hand, haven’t given anyone a good reason to think that they can turn it around.
