The Atlanta Braves seem to be treading water lately, unable to go on any sort of real run while the teams ahead of theme in the NL East do the same..  Their bullpen has been nasty this season with Johnny Venters and Craig Kimbrel but their lineup is hurting and other than Jair Jurrjens their rotation has been spotty at best.  That includes Sunday starter Tim Hudson.  He was left for dead after arm surgery a couple of years ago but responded with one of his best seasons ever last season.  Unfortunately that form has eluded him this year so far.  His last start was quality but the Braves haven’t won a game he has started since May 4th.  One ray of hope is that Hudson has been very good against the Mets (13-6).   All in all this is favourable matchup for the Braves.

Despite the turmoil regarding the team’s financial situation and with trade rumours swirling the New York Mets really aren’t that horrible a team.  Carlos Beltran is swinging the bat pretty well of late, Angel Pagan is back in the lineup and Jose Reyes is trying to show other teams that he is still an elite player.  If third baseman David Wright were healthy they would actually have the makings of a pretty good lineup.  The real problem for this team is a lack of pitching.  They may have shutout the Braves last night but really this is one of the poorest staffs in the majors.   Who knows where they would be without rookie Dillon Gee who has picked up slack from everyone in the rotation including tonight’ starter R.A. Dickey.  Apparently last year’s dominance really was a fluke as he has returned to previous levels of poor performance.

The odds makers have the Atlanta Braves as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 7.

Prediction:  Atlanta gets back to winning ways as Hudson easily outpitches Dickey.  A close game nailed close by the great Braves bullpen
