The Dodgers’ 2009 World Series odds rest on the shoulders of 32-year-old Vicente Padilla, who has been Los Angeles’ best hurler in the playoffs so far. Padilla will head out on Wednesday trying to extend the Dodgers’ season as they’re down 3-1 to the defending World Series champs, and he’ll look to delay the celebration of a city where he almost spent six years.
Dodgers vs Phillies odds – Wednesday, October 21, 8:07 PM ET
Padilla (2-0, 0.63) hasn’t lost since joining the Dodgers on August 19th, and he earned the Phillies’ lone win in a 2-1 victory at home, allowing a run on four hits over 7.1 innings. Padilla also had six strikeouts and a single walk, and if you had told any online sports betting player that Vicente Padilla would be one of the best pitchers in the playoffs, you would have gotten a strange look. Padilla has made 26 starts at Citizens Bank Park, going 10-11 with a 4.98 ERA.
Cole Hamels (1-1, 6.97) celebrated the birth of his infant son with a victory in an 8-6 win during Game 1 of the NLCS. Last year’s World Series MVP gave up four runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings, and he was taken deep twice, but Hamels looked better than he did in a loss to Colorado in the NLDS. Hamels probably shouldn’t have started that game as his wife went into labor during the game, and he left immediately. When you have something like that on your mind, playoffs or not, step aside.
Sportsbook odds have the Phillies favored at -148 to clinch the NLCS, and they should put the Dodgers away on Wednesday. Padilla, despite his brilliant pitching so far, has never been in this position before, while Hamels has and is more likely to pitch well now that his mind is free of distractions. The Phillies have scored 15 runs in their last two games, and they’ll be eager to end this series in front of their home fans. As well as Padilla has pitched, would you put your season on his shoulders? Take the Phillies on Wednesday and await their World Series odds.
