After a couple of weeks with great feature games everyone can take a breath this week. All the contenders are playing pretenders and the most interesting games are probably the ones not featuring any ranked teams. Ilinois-Michigan and Penn State-Northwestern should be tight contests and I think one of them will be an upset, although both have potential. Interestingly, the Badgers are now lying in the weeds of the championship debate if they can avoid the shrapnel over the last few weeks of the season and seemingly nobody is talking about the Buckeyes anymore. It might be because they are not playing this week or it might be because they haven’t beaten anybody yet this season.

Illinois @ Michigan – 12:00 PM ET on ESPN
This is an interesting contest and not a bad one to kick off the weekend in the Big Ten. Neither of these teams is a threat to take the conference title but they are both trying to prove that the improvements they have demonstrated so far this season are for real and a win over the other would help. A victory would also help their coaches who are desperate for success to keep their jobs. Denard Robinson has cooled of late and he is the key to this one. If he can get his Heisman mojo back than Michigan should win at home. If not then Illinois will continue its surprise ascent, possibly saving Ron Zook in the process.
Prediction: Illinois 27 – Michigan 31 – Bet Now
Odds: Illinois: +3 – Michigan: -3 – Over/Under: 57

#16 Iowa @ Indiana – 12:00 PM ET
Iowa made it interesting in the conference race by beating, no thumping, Michigan State last week. Everyone knew they were capable of doing it but it has made it very intriguing in the conference down the stretch. Seeing how Iowa performed last week should send a post Halloween scare to Bloomington as you can bet the Hoosiers were hoping to catch a slumping Hawkeye squad. For Indiana to have a chance they need Ben Chappell to be almost perfect…and a bit of luck.
Prediction: Iowa 38 – Indiana 17 – Bet Now
Odds: Iowa : -17 – Indiana: +17 – Over/Under: 53.5

Minnesota @ #14 Michigan State – 12:00 PM ET
Too bad Spartan fans, things were feeling pretty special there for a while. Now everyone is expecting a follow up hiccup so they can say “same old Spartans” so please don’t give them the satisfaction MSU. Not against Minnesota. The Gophers are pretty bad and shouldn’t put up much resistance for a team that can still play in the Rose Bowl as the winner of the Big Ten. There is still a lot to play for so don’t blow it MSU.
Prediction: Minnesota 16 – Michigan State 42 – Bet Now
Odds: Minnesota: +24 – Michigan State: -24 – Over/Under: 57.5

#9 Wisconsin @ Purdue – 12:00 PM ET
The Badgers are in a good spot provided they don’t so something silly like lose down the stretch. The remainder of their schedule is perfectly winnable, all they have to do is play like they did in upsets of Iowa and Ohio State. It may not even require that kind of effort to beat a beaten down Purdue. If they want to potentially get the big prize at the end of the rainbow they not only have to win but look good doing so.
Prediction: Wisconsin 49 – Purdue 13 – Bet Now

Northwestern @ Penn State – 3:30 PM ET on ABC
This game may be an afterthought in terms of the Big Ten race but it could mean a lot for bowl positioning – assuming PSU gets another win this year which is not a given. Both teams are coming off of victories last week and the Nittany Lions were fairly impressive in beating Michigan behind QB Matthew McGloin. He may not be the athlete Robert Bolden is but he is showing a knack for getting it done and Evan Royster has come back to life partly as a result. McGloin vs. NW’s Dan Persa is a pretty good battle at QB that should determine the winner here.
Prediction: Northwestern 28 – Penn State 24 – Bet Now
Odds: Northwestern: +6 – Penn State: -6 – Over/Under: 48
