NFL Week 6 Preview, Match Ups & Predictions
As Week 6 the 2010-11 NFL season encroaches, the teams that haven’t had a bye will begin feel the effects of fatigue. My pick for Game of the Week is Dallas at Minnesota in a rematch of last year’s NFC Divisional playoff game. Here I take a look at the matchups, giving you some early insight that will help make your 2010 NFL wagers winners. Teams with byes this week are Buffalo, Cincinnati, Arizona, and Carolina.

SUN, OCT 17 TIME (ET)
Seattle at Chicago 1:00 PM FOX – Pete Carroll will have a pretty good idea by this point in the season whether or not his return to NFL coaching will be short lived. The Seahawks’ o-line will be tested for sure by the likes of Bears’ DE Julius Peppers while they secondary will have its hands full trying to contain WR Earl Bennett.
Baltimore at New England 1:00 PM CBS – It’s unlikely that Ravens QB Joe Flacco will outduel Tom Brady, so the Ravens will need to bring their defense and their running game if they want to pull one off in Foxboro. New England will remember the 33-14 shellacking they got from the Baltimore last year that ended their playoff run early, and have this game circled on their calendar.
Detroit at NY Giants 1:00 PM FOX – Eli Manning should be a little worried about how his offensive line will handle a dynamic rookie like DT Ndamukong Suh. In a game like this, Suh could be a factor in the overall outcome, as Manning will have little time to hook up with his receivers downfield.
Atlanta at Philadelphia 1:00 PM FOX –Michael Vick will face his old team, but probably not on the field. Kevin Kolb is likely to be the chosen Eagles starter and will face off against another young pocket passer—Matt Ryan—in this rival clash. Philadelphia will try to work their New Orleans-esque passing attack against the Falcons secondary, but cornerback Dunta Robinson will be ready.
Cleveland at Pittsburgh 1:00 PM CBS – The Browns will be the final team to take advantage of the spoils of QB Ben Roethlisberger’s off field exploits. But even without Big Ben, the Steel Curtain should close on a commanding home win at Heinz Field to start the Pittsburgh divisional schedule.
Miami at Green Bay 1:00 PM CBS – The Fish will be well rested coming off their bye week and they’ll need it. Especially the secondary that will have to contain Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers’ deep passing attack. The only thing Miami can be thankful for in this one is that this game at Lambeau Field is scheduled for October and not December. Brrrr.
San Diego at St. Louis 1:00 PM CBS – The Rams will be coming off an easy game against the Lions when they return to the “ED” to take on Phillip Rivers and the rest of the Bolts. St. Louis will need to prime their secondary for a massive Chargers’ air assault that will likely be their demise.
New Orleans at Tampa Bay 1:00 PM FOX – This NFC South battle would appear to be a cake wake for the Saints. But the Bucs aren’t just going to roll over and die. However, getting pounded by the Saints 38-7 at the Dome last year won’t give young Josh Freeman a heck of a lot of hope.
Kansas City at Houston 1:00 PM CBS – The Texans will want to head into their bye week with a win over KC, the caliber of team Houston must beat in order to rise to the likes of the Colts, Saints and Patriots. But they shouldn’t take the Chiefs to lightly, as they could pull of a rare upset if Matt Cassel were to be able to hook up with Dwayne Bowe, or Jamaal Charles should have a break out day out of the backfield.
Oakland at San Francisco 4:05 PM CBS – The Battle of the Bay is always one that players and fans can get up for, despite the fact that these two teams haven’t been at their best since the Gannon versus Young/Garcia age. The teams will be playing purely for bragging rights to the City by the Bay, as a playoff run for either will most likely be a stroke of luck.
NY Jets at Denver 4:05 PM CBS – This should be an easy road win for the Jets, unless by some chance one of Denver’s trio of quarterback hopefuls can emerge as a hero in the this match up. The Jets’ Sanchez should get a little boost with the thin air as New York head into their bye week with a win at Mile High.
Dallas at Minnesota 4:15 PM FOX – The Cowboys will be looking to reverse a 34-3 playoff rout at the hands of the Vikings last season. Dallas QB Tony Romo will want to avenge his team’s inability to find the end zone the last time they were in the Twin Cities, but will have to outpace crafty field general Brett Favre on his home turf. The Vikes have too many weapons on both sides of the ball to give up this one to the Cowboys.
Indianapolis at Washington 8:20 PM NBC – The Skins’ offense is going to be better just by the simple fact that QB Donovan McNabb is now orchestrating the offense. However, it’s pretty hard to bet against Peyton Manning and company even on the road. Unless the Colts D gets caught napping, Indy should come away with a win in the nations capital.
MON, OCT 18 TIME (ET)
Tennessee at Jacksonville 8:30 PM – Titans running back Chris Johnson will be well on his way by Week 6 to another outstanding season, and barring any injuries should be close to repeating his 2006 yard performance of 2009. This will be the Jags fourth home game of the year before embarking on back-to-back road games prior to their bye week. If they can get a strong performance from RB Maurice Jones-Drew, they could effectively match the Titans pound for pound on the ground and grab a win in front of a national audience.
