SUN, OCT 3 TIME (ET)

San Francisco at Atlanta 1:00 PM FOX – This game will be won or lost on the ground with two of the league’s most complete running backs going head-to-head in this matchup. The Falcons’ Michael Turner rushed for 97 yards as Atlanta pounded the 49ers 45-10 in last seasons meeting. The Atlanta defense took San Francisco’s Frank Gore out of the equation that one. The advantage is to Atlanta as Matt Ryan outguns Alex Smith to grab a victory at home

NY Jets at Buffalo 1:00 PM CBS- These two rivals played an ugly pair of games last season. The Jets will need to be much more creative than just deploying a wicked rushing attack behind the solitary efforts of Shonn Green. Buffalo will need quarterback Trent Edwards: The one-time rising star who lost his starting job a year ago, to step it up if they are to have any hope of taking down New York in this one.

Cincinnati at Cleveland 1:00 PM CBS – The battle for Ohio isn’t what it used be. Last year’s AFC North champions Cincinnati should have no problem steamrolling the lowly Browns in this one. But if Cleveland can stop the Bengals’ Cedric Benson and conjure up a little running attack of their own – there’s always the chance they could pull off an upset at home.

Detroit at Green Bay 1:00 PM FOX – The Packers o-line will have their hands full trying to contain rookie DT Ndamukong Suh. All the attention on Suh could create opportunities for the rest of the Motor City front four to find their way to Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. If the Lions can force Rodgers out of the pocket early, than they could make some noise in this one.

Denver at Tennessee 1:00 PM CBS – The Titans’ powerful o-line will wreck havoc on an undersized Broncos front four, creating holes the size of small countries, allowing running back Chris Johnson to rush for 100+ yards in Music City on this day.

Seattle at St. Louis 1:00 PM FOX – Pete Carroll’s boys won just four more games than the worst team in the league –the St. Louis Rams—did in 2009. They will not only want to make sure they don’t lose, but also put some distance between them on the scoreboard. The Rams, who have no where to go but up after a single win in 2009, will want to make good use of running back Steven Jackson, attacking a weak Seattle defensive line right up the gut.

Carolina at New Orleans 1:00 PM FOX – The Panthers, although rank outsiders in this matchup, do have the weapons in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart to pull of the upset against the reigning champs. The Saints have been known to have defensive lapses and Carolina will need to pounce on every opportunity. The “cats” defense will also need to find away to contain Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees, who always manages to pull off the impossible. I think the atmosphere of the Superdome will be too much for Carolina in this one.

Baltimore at Pittsburgh 1:00 PM CBS – With the Steelers still being Roethlisbergerless, the Ravens may have the opportunity of snatching an important divisional win on the road. However the Baltimore defense should be wary of rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall who could inflict some serious damage on the ground. It’s safe to say the Ravens could focus on the Steelers rushing attack as replacement QB Byron Leftwich will likely have more INTs than TD’s by this point in the season.

Indianapolis at Jacksonville 4:05 PM CBS – Here kitty, kitty. There was a time that Jacksonville actually played some tough meetings against their division rival. But those days are long gone, a fading memory. The last time the Jags beat the Colts; it was in 2003 in Jacksonville. Seven years later can they do it again?

Houston at Oakland 4:05 PM CBS – Oakland’s Nnamdi Asomugha is possibly the best DB in the league, but even he can’t be everywhere at once. His duty will be to shadow Houston’s No. 1 receiver Andre Johnson, but Matt Schaub will have plenty of other targets to toss too like Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter and TE Owen Daniels. The Texans pass rush should put enough pressure on Oakland’s chosen quarterback for the day, as the Texans roll through Cali with a win.

Arizona at San Diego 4:15 PM FOX – The last meeting between these two teams resulted in a 17-6 preseason win for San Diego last year. Both Rivers and Leinart can throw the ball, but this bout will boil down to whom can control the ground game. The Cardinals Tim Hightower, or the Bolts Darren Sproles. Both of which did not post impressive numbers last year, rushing for less than 500 yards total for the season. This could be decided by a field goal.

Washington at Philadelphia 4:15 PM FOX – Redskins’ quarterback Donavan McNabb will need to shake off all the boos and hisses that will greet him on his return to Lincoln Financial Field, and focus on the game hand. Philly should be able to cut off any game plan the crafty veteran may through at them and secure a win over their former comrade.

Chicago at NY Giants 8:20 PM NBC – Eli Manning and Co. have a new game plan in 2010 to go along with their new crib, and losing to Cutler and the Bears ain’t part of it. The G-Men defense should have a field day as every Martz offense, seems to result in above-average QB sacks. This type of pressure could force Cutler into his old habits, resulting in a high percentage of interceptions for the New York secondary.

MON, OCT 4 TIME (ET)

New England at Miami 8:30 PM – These two AFC East rivals split the season series in 2009. Both play a crafty blend of football, especially the Fins with their dreaded wildcat offense. Miami was revitalized last season behind the dramatic comeback of running back Ricky Williams.  He along with offensive specialist Ronnie Williams are explosive when clicking. Topping the division one again, the Pats have showed why they are still as dominate a force as they once were. With targets like Welker, Moss and Holt, Brady should finish the day well against a fairly young Miami secondary.
