Last season the New Orleans Saints won the AFC East with a 13-3 record. While the Atlanta Falcons (9-7), Carolina Panthers (8-8) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-13) watched the playoffs from the comfort of their own homes. The Saints pulled off an over time comeback win over Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship Game. Then the multi-colored confetti rained down on Sun Life Stadium, after the New Orleans Saints took down the favored Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV. Drew Brees and the city of New Orleans ended the season with their first NFL championship in it’s 43 year franchise history. Now that the 2010-2011 season is approaching, here are our season NFC South team previews & predictions from the top NFL handicappers.

2010 Atlanta Falcons Preview

atlanta falcons previewAtlanta took a bit of a step backyards in 2009 as they went from an 11-5 playoff team in 2008 to watching the postseason on TV last year. The one positive aspect is they finished strong with four straight wins so expectations are high they can compete for the division and return to the postseason in 2010. The Falcons probably have the best chance of anybody to give New Orleans a run for their money in the South, but they will need some things to come together quickly on defense and for Ryan and Co. to return to their 2008 form to make it a serious one.

2010 Carolina Panthers Preview

carolina panthers previewCarolina will be a team in transition in 2010 as several veteran players are gone and some new faces have been brought in to take their place. Gone are longtime starters QB Jake Delhomme, WR Muhsin Muhammad, DE Julius Peppers, and S Chris Harris. There are just too many holes to fill on this team for them to be competitive in 2010. They will most likely battle Tampa to stay out of the cellar in the NFC South.

2010 New Orleans Saints Preview

new orleans saints previewWith New Orleans remaining pretty much the same team that won it all last season, the pressure to repeat will be the toughest challenge they will face.
The Saints are still the class of the NFC South so it is hard to see them not repeating as division champions. Beyond that, things could get a little tougher as there are a few good teams in the conference expecting to take their spot in next year’s Super Bowl.

2010 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview

tampa bay buccaneers previewWhen you only win three games and end the season with the 28th ranked offense and the 27th ranked defense you really only have one direction to go and that is up. But the Buccaneers are in for another long season but they are moving in the right direction. With a ton of young talent they will be far more competitive than last season, however it will still take some time for this to convert itself into wins.
