MLB National League Power Rankings

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is well over a third of the way complete and after the first 11 weeks of action some teams have made an early statement they hope to carry right through this summer while some others are already digging themselves a hole they may not be able to climb out of.

All 16 National League teams may still have the dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL after the first three weeks of June and their current odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 15-1 World Series 30-1

Atlanta is keeping their foot pressed to the pedal in the NL East as they have won eight of their last 10 and five straight. At 42-28 the Braves now have the best record in the NL. Their recent winning streak has opened up a 2 ½ game lead over the Mets and a 5 ½ game lead over the Phillies in the division. Atlanta’s pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.71, tying them with New York for fifth in the NL. Their team batting average has risen to .264, ranking them third in the NL. Their 344 runs scored; an average of 4.91 per game in the best in the league and fifth overall in the Majors.

San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 30-1 World Series 150-1

San Diego won their 40th game of the season this past Sunday raising their overall record to 40-29, 1 ½ games ahead of the Dodgers and two games ahead of San Francisco in the NL West. They have only gone 5-5 in their last 10 games but that has still been good enough to hold onto the lead in the division. The Padres pitching continues to be their strength as they lead the NL with a team ERA of just 3.07. Their team hitting still leaves a bit to be desired as their .249 team batting average is ranked 14th in the league.

St. Louis Cardinals Odds to Win the NL Pennant 5-2 World Series 15-2

St. Louis is back in the lead in the NL Central by default. They have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games, but Cincinnati has dropped seven of their last 10 to fall 1 ½ games back. The Cardinals are 38-31 overall and 23-12 at home. Their overall team pitching remains solid as they are ranked second only to San Diego in the NL with a team ERA of 3.19. They are ranked sixth in the league with a team batting average of .260. Their 306 runs scored; an average of 4.43 per game ranks them 10th in the NL.

New York Mets Odds to Win the NL Pennant 12-1 World Series 25-1

Despite losing two out of three to the Yankees over the weekend, New York has still been able to keep pace with Atlanta in the East by winning eight out of their last 10. They are 39-30 overall, 2 ½ games back. Their team pitching continues to steadily improve as their current ERA of 3.71 has them ranked fifth in the NL. From a hitting standpoint, their team batting average of .257 ranks them ninth in the league and their 311 runs scored (4.51 per game average) ranks them eighth.
