Pitching Probables: Kevin Slowey vs. Cole Hamels
The Minnesota Twins just keep rolling along, never getting too high or too low. They took the first two games against Colorado this week then ran into Ubaldo the Great, got shut down, then got pummeled in the series opener against Philly. They are still in first in the AL Central and are getting are getting expected production from the likes of Mourneau and Mauer. More importantly Delmon Young seems to be maturing adding some right-handed balance to those fearsome lefties. Starter Kevin Slowey didn’t fare well in his last start against Atlanta where he didn’t even make it out of the fifth, a rarity. He will be facing a lineup that may have finally come together featuring Ryan Howard to individually killed the Twins last night.
It seems like all it took to get the Phillies offense going was a trip to Yankee stadium. After dropping the first game of their series against the Yankees they have averaged more than 7 runs per game over their last three, including 9 against the Twins last night. Most importantly Ryan Howard may have found his power stroke and when he is on he can carry the whole club. Equally important is a seeming return to form of today’s starter Cole Hamels. He hasn’t given up more than 3 runs in a start since April 28 and is striking out almost a batter an inning. The Twins feature lefties Mauer and Mourneau. Lefties are batting only .141 against Hamels this year.
Prediction: The Phillies are rolling again. The pitching matchup really favours them as well so all signs point to another solid victory. Maybe take the run line.
