Tennessee Titans Outlook for 2010
In 2008 Tennessee rolled to 13-3 record, beating out Indianapolis for the AFC South title. In 2009 they lost their first six games, effectively taking themselves out of the AFC postseason picture. With Vince Young back at quarterback and RB Chris Johnson in the backfield they managed to crawl back to .500 but the long term damage was already done. They question now is which team will show up in 2010?
Young has earned his starting job back but can he lead this team over the course of a 17 week season? Johnson ran for over 2000 yards last season, but is already holding out of the team’s OTA’s in hope of getting a new contract. The Titans have been successful at resigning quite a few of the their restricted free agents including DT Tony Brown and TE Bo Scaife but Johnson’s situation is threatening to get ugly.
They are hoping that first round draft pick DE Derrick Morgan from Georgia Tech will pay immediate dividends as they will need to improve upon a defense that was ranked 28th last year. Overall they used six of their nine draft choices on the defensive side of the ball as head coach Jeff Fisher deemed this area as their most pressing need.
They did use their third round pick to select WR Damian Williams from USC, who should provide a much needed target for Young to help improve a passing game ended up ranked 23rd in the league last year. Williams not only has excellent hands as a receiver, but he could be an instant threat as a punt returner as well.
Fisher is entering his 16th season as the Titans head coach and one thing he has shown over the years is the ability to quickly overcome adversity. After last season’s embarrassing start he will have this team ready to go in 2010. It will be up to Vince Young to see how far he can take them.
2010 Tennessee Titans Prediction: 7-9, third place in the AFC South.
