The last time these two teams tangled the Rebels throttled the Vols 81-65 back on Feb 18, of 2009.
Tennessee’s Bobby Maze and J.P. Prince both had 14 points for the Volunteers, while senior center Wayne Chism put up 12 points, 12 rebounds and six steals as No. 9 Tennessee roared back from a slow start to beat Auburn 81-55 on Thursday night. The Vols shot a season-high 60.8 percent from the field while holding Auburn to just 30.4 percent. Tennessee’s off court issued have had little impact on the squad’s ability to win games, as the Vols were able to knock off No. 1 Kansas despite the participation from several key players that missed the contest due to suspension. Some of the players will be returning in time for Saturday’s match up in Knoxville.
The Rebels avoided dropping two straight conference games when junior guard Eniel Polynice scored off an inbounds pass to himself with 11.3 seconds remaining to defeat Georgia 80-76 on Wednesday night. Chris Warren led the Rebels with 12 points, while Graham and Trevor Gaskins added 11 apiece. The Rebels entered the week leading the SEC in points scored per game with 83.6, and 16.2 assists per game — third-best in the league. Ole Miss also leads the Southeastern Conference in 3-point buckets at 10 per game. They lead the league in turnover margin and assist-to-turnover ratio, with 1.31 assists per turnover.
The odds makers have Ole Miss as +6-point underdogs in this one.
Ole Miss is a high scoring, physical, and run-and-gun team. They will wear down a depth-depleted Tennessee by the middle of the second half.
Even with home court advantage you can expect the Rebels to take this one from Tennessee by double digits.
