#4 Kentucky Wildcats (8-0) v #14 Connecticut Huskies (6-1)
The No.4 Kentucky Wildcats will tip off at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night against the No. 14 Connecticut Huskies in the SEC/Big East Invitational.
The Huskies beat the Wildcats 87-83, the last time these two teams met on March 19, 2006.
UConn held off Harvard for a 79-73 win on Sunday. Senior guard Jerome Dyson scored 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds while Kemba Walker added 20 points and Stanley Robinson added 18 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Dyson has scored over 20 points in five of UConn’s seven games. Walker has been doing a nice job at the point now that he’s taken over for the departed A.J. Price. He led the team in assists through six games this season. Rebounding has been a weakness for the Huskies early in the season and will need to improve if they want a shot at another NCAA title.
The Wildcats edged out a 68-66 win over No. 10 North Carolina in their last outing, as Kentucky freshman guard John Wall finished with 16 points—including the clinching free throws with 4.3 seconds left. Wall is averaging just-under 19 points per game. Junior forward Patrick Patterson finished with 19 points and seven rebounds in the win. The victory pushed the Wildcats win total to 1,996, just head of North Carolina’s 1,991, as they inch closer to becoming the first program to reach 2,000.
The odds makers currently have UConn as -2-point favorites.
The Huskies have some big bodies to jam up any penetration by the Wildcats in the paint, but will struggle against Kentucky’s perimeter shooters. UConn will need to work the glass against a very good Wildcats squad that is pulling down an average of 40 offensive and defensive rebounds a game combined.
Look for the Wildcats to improve their record to 9-0 with a big win over UConn.
