2009-2010 Portland Season Preview
If this is the year someone denies Gonzaga its birthright championship, it’ll be senior-heavy Portland. The WCC’s surprise team in 2008-09, the Pilots won 19 games for only the third time in 50 seasons, and the missing piece was transfer guard T.J. Campbell, who ran the show from the point and hit 53 percent of his 3-pointers. Jared Stohl is nearly as accurate, and if Nik Raivio doesn’t become a WCC Player of the Year the way brother Derek did at Gonzaga, he does have more weapons as a scorer. And in a league short on established big men, Portland’s are solid if not spectacular.
