Many NFL betting players are expecting big things out of Green Bay, despite the fact that they play in one of the toughest divisions in the league. The Packers travel to the University of Phoenix Stadium to face Arizona, who exceeded expectations last year and are looking to take the next step.
Packers vs Cardinals odds – Friday, August 28, 10:00 PM ET
Aaron Rodgers was almost perfect in a 31-21 win over Buffalo, going 8-of-9 for 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Ryan Grant averaged 4.3 yards per carry as the Packers racked up 108 yards on the ground, and 22 first downs. However, the most impressive performance came from the defense, who forced five turnovers out of the Bills, including three fumbles. How the Packers would react to a new 3-4 defense was the main concern about their online betting odds, but the Packers are seventh in the preseason so far.
The Cardinals couldn’t get anything going in a 17-6 loss to San Diego, as three quarterbacks combined to go 18-of-38 for 230 yards and a pair of picks. Matt Leinart may have had the best showing by going 6-of-10 for 74 yards and no picks as he battles Brian St. Pierre for the No.2 job. The Cardinals also only averaged three yards per carry, and they’d love to have rookie “Beanie” Wells in the lineup, but an ailing ankle has kept him out of the preseason so far. The Cardinals probably won’t push him, but he really should get some reps in this time of year,, before some start referring to his injury-riddled college career in their sports betting blog.
The Packers are 3-point underdogs in Arizona, where they are 1-3 in four games since 1988. The Cardinals may not have receiver Steve Breaston (knee) for this game, along with Wells, and they figured these two to be very important cogs in their offensive system. They’ll need all the weapons they can get against this revamped Green Bay defense, which is blitzing more often and showing more flexibility than it has in years. Look for another impressive game from this unit, and take the Packers in Friday’s NFL picks.
