This game will be Michael Vick’s first start in the Georgia Dome for an opposing team after spending his first six seasons in the league with the Falcons. There is certainly no love lost from his former fans, but this could actually work against Atlanta as Vick tends to play his best under the bright lights of prime time.
Last week he made enough big plays with both his arm and his legs to lead the Eagles to a 31-13 victory over St. Louis as 4.5-point road favorites in a game that went ‘over’ the 43.5-point line. The main concern remains Vick’s health behind a completely rebuilt offensive line that allowed far too many hits on its All-Pro QB last week.
Atlanta is still scratching its head to try and figure out how its normally potent offense only managed to score two field goals against Chicago in its opener, especially given the fact that Matt Ryan threw for 319 yards and Michael Turner added another 100 yards on the ground. The Falcons went onto to lose to the Bears 30-13 as one-point road favorites. The total went ‘over’ the 40.5-point line.
There are some injury concerns on defense for both of these teams as defensive end Juqua Parker and defensive back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are listed as questionable for Philadelphia and defensive tackle’s Jonathan Babineaux is out and Corey Peters is listed as questionable for Atlanta.
Philadelphia is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games as a road favorite and the total has gone ‘over’ in their last seven games on the road. Atlanta is 4-1 ATS in its last five games as a home underdog and the total has gone ‘over’ in nine of its last 13 games overall.
Head-to-head in this series, the Eagles are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six trips to Atlanta and 9-2-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall. Stick with Vick and Philadelphia to improve upon these trends for as in the words of Dick Vitale, these guys are ‘prime-time-players’.
The odds makers have the Philadelphia Eagles as a -2.5 point favorite with an over/under of 49.5.
The Pick: Philadelphia 34 Atlanta 21
