Unfathomable! That’s what comes to mind when I see the Browns three point favorites on the road against Indianapolis. But after suffering through last week’s game against the Texans it appears as though the oddsmakers may have this one right. Or maybe not! The Cleveland Browns didn’t exactly light the NFL on fire in Week 1 with their home loss against one of the worst teams in the NFL, the Cincinnati Bengals. The Browns and the Colts will look for their inaugural win of the 2011 season in what promises to be a less-than-scintillating affair.

Cleveland didn’t do much on either side of the ball in Week 1. The offense was stuck in the mud and the defense failed to generate even one turnover against a young and inexperienced Bengals offense. Colt McCoy completed just 19 of 40 passes on the day for 213 yards and two scores and an interception, good for an unflattering 70.1 QB rating and Peyton Hillis wasted a juicy matchup by rushing for only 57 yards.

The Indianapolis downward spiral started before the season even started and any optimism that Kerry Collins could step in was quickly erased against the Texans. This is not the Colts team that we are accustomed to seeing – the offense a shell of its former self and the defense failed to step up in Peyton Manning’s absence.

Kerry Collins had a game that Indy fans would like to forget in Week 1. He completed 16 of 31 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown but was responsible for three fumbles, two of which came in the Red Zone. The running game didn’t help out much either in generating just 64 yards on 15 carries. All in all, the Colts amassed a disappointing 236 yards of total offense – not good considering Houston’s previously beatable defense.

The better defense will likely lead its team to victory on Sunday – both rushing offenses will be heavily featured forcing the run stoppers to steal the show. Cleveland had a very difficult time with Cedric Benson while the Colts allowed 167 yards rushing to the Arian Fosterless Texans. It seems more likely that Peyton Hillis will have a better day than Joseph Addai in this one and that the Indy run defense will be shredded once again.

Betting Outlook: The statistical edge lies with the Colts in this one. They are 7-1 SU in their last eight meetings with Cleveland but are just 4-3-1 ATS in their last eight. Keep in mind however that those games took place when a healthy Peyton Manning was leading the Colts.

Indianapolis is in complete shambles already. Kerry Collins is not the answer! Peyton Hillis should dominate this game on the way to an ugly Cleveland win on Sunday. Indy goes 0-2 and continues what could be a lost season in Indiana.

The odds makers have the Cleveland Browns as a -3 point favorite with an over/under of 38.

Pick: Cleveland Browns -3
