All Star Snubs Leave Foul Taste In Fan’s Mouths

Earlier this week, sports betting enthusiasts handicapping the MLB were able to review the 2011 All Star rosters, for the American and National Leagues. To say this year’s baseball betting All Star teams are controversial would be putting it lightly. With roughly a week to go until the All Star game, we feel it is safe to say, that the stars left off this year’s teams have left a foul taste in fans and experts mouths alike.

For the first time in the last decade, the MLB All Star game will not feature both Albert Pujols and Ichiro Suzuki. In their places, are Gaby Sanchez of the Florida Marlins and Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays. Given how many All Stars make the team on name recognition alone, it is astonishing that neither Pujols nor Ichiro will be a part of the festivities this year.

On the other hand, fans following the MLB Standings are furious, that Asdrubal Cabrera of the Cleveland Indians was stiffed of a roster spot because of Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees. Jeter is on the verge of joining elite company this season, as he is closing in on 3000 hits. However, despite this admirable feat, everyone and their uncle know that Cabrera is the guy that should be on the All Star team and not Jeter. Essentially, Cabrera has been the main catalyst, for the Cleveland Indians resurgence to relevancy in baseball, as he has 14 home runs and 49 RBI. In comparison, Jeter has two home runs and 20 RBI. Personally, we see Jeter being nominated as the starting shortstop, as an injustice, since he basically got on the roster for being a part of the New York Yankees. If there was any justice, Cabrera would have made the All Star roster because his body of work is more important.

Although we protest the Derek Jeter spot on the All Star team, the one New York Yankee who certainly got ripped off by the MLB, was ace pitcher, CC Sabathia. This season, CC Sabathia has once again dominated the MLB, as he has been far and away the most consistent player on the Yankees. Yet, due to the Yankees position players taking up the designated roster spots, Sabathia received an All Star snub. With that in mind, it should be understood, that if an injury comes up before next week’s All Star game, Sabathia will be first to get the phone call.

Two other players fans will miss out on seeing play in this year’s All Star game, are Chicago White Sox designated hitter and first baseman Paul Konerko, along with Pittsburgh Pirates hidden gem, center fielder Andrew McCutchen. For some odd reason, the American League will be carrying two catchers at this year’s All Star game, as both Matt Wieters of the Baltimore Orioles and Russell Martin of the New York Yankees were voted onto the team. In theory, Konerko should replace one of the two catchers, since his numbers (317/21/62) are far better than either catcher.

In McCutchen’s case, he isn’t even a part of the last chance voting, in which the fans get to decide the final spots for each League’s roster. McCutchen, along with teammate Kevin Correia, both received snubs on the All Star team. Yes both players on the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, but when you have several teams sending more than one player, it just doesn’t seem fair that these players hard work is brushed aside.
