The Los Angeles Dodgers have been playing better lately, especially on offense where they are led by outfielder Matt Kemp who has been on fire of late. Meanwhile their pitching has been yo-yoing and their bullpen is in tatters with their top 4 closer candidates currently on the disabled list (and it wasn’t like they were performing well before anyway). This leaves a team which on any given day just isn’t sure what it needs to do to win. There is enough offensive talent to slug with most clubs and some good starting pitching from time to time – but no consistency. Add that to the drama of the ownership situation and who know what to make of this franchise right now. They haven’t been great against the Phillies lately either so buyer beware on all fronts for L.A. in this series
Despite their vaunted starting staff the Philadelphia Phillies are scuffling along winning just 5 of their last 10. They broke a 4 game losing streak yesterday behind ace Roy Halladay and will look to win again behind Cliff Lee who despite great dominance numbers isn’t winning games for Philly this time around. The lineup has gotten healthier with the return of Chase Utley but he hasn’t found his stroke yet after being down for so long. Meanwhile other than Placido Polanco no one else in the lineup is delivering as expected – with no other regular batting better than .268. If it wasn’t for excellent pitching this team would be closer to the bottom than the top in the National League East.
The odds makers have the Philadelphia Phillies as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 7.5.

Prediction: Philadelphia wins a low scoring affair with Cliff Lee going the distance. Lee hasn’t faced L.A. in a while but has great numbers against them.
