The Boston Red Sox have climbed out of the deep early whole they were in with much better play of late. They still can’t seem to get outfielder Carl Crawford on track and keep experimenting with him all over the batting order. He is not alone in poor production as the entire team is hitting only .232. The pitching hasn’t been much better although they did get a very good outing from ace Jon Lester last night in the second game of the series (both Sox wins). Coming back with Daisuke Matsuzaka is going to be a huge adjustment for the Angels but he has been very hittable through three starts this season. He isn’t even averaging 5 innings per outing which is taxing a bullpen that has already sprung a few leaks this year. Until the lineup comes around Boston is a hard team to back.
The Los Angeles Angels have been among the early money winners this season. That is because they have been a superb 8-4 on the road (only 4-4 at home). Dan Haren lost last night for the first time and it will be up to Ervin Santana to get the Angels back into the winning column this evening. It is amazing how he flip flops between good and bad seasons. By historical patterns this was supposed to be a bad year and he has not disappointed with a 5.26 ERA after 4 outings. His home numbers have been much better this year and he has held his own against Boston throughout his career so there is hope for the Halos. Especially compared to Matsuzaka who owns an ERA of over 6 in his career against the Angels.
The odds makers have the Los Angeles Angels as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 9.
