Pitching Probables: Felix Hernandez vs Trevor Cahill
The Seattle Mariners have few sure things on their roster these days but they know they will have a chance to win every time King Felix Hernandez is on the hill. Hernandez was so dominant that he won the Cy Young award last year even though was only 13-12. I guess that is what a 2.27 ERA will do for you, even in the Year of the Pitcher. Hernandez is very familiar with Oakland and has had good success against them throughout his career with a 9-4 record. Oakland’s home park is known for keeping the score low and Seattle best chance for victory is to keep Oakland off the board all together. Hernandez has always started fast and April is his best month for ERA throughout his career. 2.66 isn’t too shabby.
Oakland counters with another great young pitcher in Trevor Cahill. He might not strike out as many batters as scouts thought he would but it is hard to argue with the results from last season when Cahill went 18-8 with an ERA under 3.00. Not bad for his first full season in the bigs. In his lone start against Seattle last year all he did was shut them out for 7 innings in a victory. He might have to do so again as the Oakland lineup is once again pretty punchless. Thnigs have changed so much it is hard to remember that this was the franchise that brought us the bash brothers way back when. Oakland’s lineup presents few threats and the total line of 6.5 reflects that. Normally when I see a line that low I go over but for this one that might be a challenge.
The odds makers have the Oakland A’s as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 6.5.

Prediction: Pitching fans should not be disappointed in this one. I think King Felix is in for another hard luck season starting tonight. Take the A’s as the slight dog.
