No stellar contests in the conference this week as none of the Big Four are playing each other. In fact there is only one big game of consequence still left on the schedule which is Ohio State’s visit to Iowa next weekend. I think this week’s game for Iowa, vs Northwestern is intriguing because of the history between the two schools. Most wouldn’t view Northwestern as an in-conference bully but they have had a lot of success against Iowa this decade including handing Iowa one of their two losses last year, on the road no less. There are important games for the coaches of Illinois and Michigan as both teams jockey for bowl positioning and to keep their jobs after last weeks thriller won by Big Blue. Things should be relatively quiet for the Big Ten on the national stage this week but the will draw back the national audience the last two weeks of the season.

vs.

Minnesota @ Illinois – 12:00 PM ET

The Illini thought they had a good defense until Michigan shredded them last weekend. Meanwhile Minnesota knows that they stink and are just playing out the string. The most intriguing part is who might coach the Gophers next year and maybe the Illini too, depending on how these last fews games playout. Getting to the spread -21 is a little too rich for my blood with a team like Illinois. Michigan State had a hard time besting that against Minny last week. I would pass on this one.

Prediction: Minnesota 23 – Illinois 41 – Bet Now

Odds: Minnesota: +21 – Illinois: -21 Over/Under: 53

vs.

Michigan @ Purdue – 12:00 PM ET

What an offensive performance by Big Blue last week and what a horrible defensive performance too. Unfortunately the Boliermakers are just too shorthanded to take full advantage of that bad Michigan D. They are down to their third string QB and are missing a slew of offensive playmakers as well. Double digits might be too much to spot UM when it seems like Denard Robinson leaves every game early due to injury…but they are capable of blowing them out.

Prediction: Michigan 42 – Purdue 21 – Bet Now

Odds: Michigan : +17.5 – Purdue: -17.5 Over/Under: 58

vs.

#13 Iowa @ Northwestern – 12:00 PM ET on ESPN

Best game in the conference this week right here. Iowa is a very formidable opponent but the Wildcats will not be intimidated, especially after beating the Hawkeyes on the road last year. In fact, they have won 4 of the last 5 going 4-1 ATS as well. Last year NW was able to knock QB Ricky Stanzi out of the game and take advantage of a weak backup. This year the macthup between Stanzi and NW QB Dan Persa might actually favour the Wildcats. Persa relieved Kafka last year and made some big plays, especially with his legs to secure the win. He will need to again given Iowa’s D and his escapability gives the Wildcats more than a chance to pull another upset of Iowa.

Prediction: Iowa 33 – Northwestern 31 – Bet Now

Odds: Iowa: -10 – Northwestern: +10 Over/Under: 50

vs.

Indiana @ #7 Wisconsin – 12:00 PM ET on ESPN2

It wasn’t that long ago I thought Indiana might be a surprise team in the Big Ten. But they have yet to win a conference game this season and may have to wait until the last week of the season against Purdue to do so. Wisconsin is part of a group of teams with just a single conference loss so they can not afford a slip up. Of all the teams in that group they have the second easiest schedule so as long as they play smart they might be able to reap the Rose Bowl as a prize. The Badgers should easily dispatch the Hoosiers but the large spread has me concerned about a backdoor cover.

Prediction: Indiana 24 – Wisconsin 45 – Bet Now

Odds: Indiana: +21.5 – Wisconsin: -21.5 Over/Under: 58

vs.

Penn State @ #9 Ohio State – 3:30 PM ET on ABC

At the beginning of the season this was thought to be an important showdown game. Now it is pretty much an after thought. No one is giving the Buckeyes much consideration these days and the Nittany Lions are in the great abyss of mediocrity. For Ohio State they need a sharp game against a name team to try and improve their BCS standing. They only have one loss but are behind 4 other teams with the same record in the BCS including Wisconsin who beat them. OSU doesn’t usually have much trouble with PSU but it should be noted that they lost to the Nittany Lions at the Horseshoe two year ago in a low scoring affari 13-6. That is the only chance JoePa’s squad has this year and it isn’t much of one. This one should be a rout.

Prediction: Ohio State 38 – Penn State 17 – Bet Now

Odds: Penn State: +18 – Ohio State: -18 Over/Under: 49.5
